Icons are everywhere!

An icon is someone who makes an effort. Art makes an effort. Therefore art is an icon. Marilyn Monroe was and is an icon and a work of art as well. Hence Marilyn Monroe and art have a nature in common. Icon - Art - Marilyn is iconic.

Twerpocalypse 2013 - 20 Songs That Invaded My Ear - Part 1

Man, this year has flown by like nothing. At least it feels like it, even though looking back it seemed so filled with big pop cultural moments like no other. So what better way to look at the passed year then starting a review of it that looks back by giving a list of the 20 songs that invaded my ear. So lets start the first part of the list, number 20 till 11!

Honorary Mention - "Sublime" by Raja (2012)

Raja, is season three winner of RuPauls Drag Race. Raja is known for her androgyneous, warrior type style of drag that dominates the runway. She might not be as known as Jinkx or Willam but Raja has this very mystical and daring personality. Sublime might be from 2012, and hence can only gets the "Honorary Mention", but it is such a great song with a concept music video that it just had to be part of this list. Because it is about that time, I am feeling so sublime.

#21 (Should Be On The List, But Not in the Top 20) - "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry feat. Juicy J. (2013)

As you may have noticed I was not what you call in love with Katy Perry's latest musical effort named PRISM. But there is one song on there that has made its way into my musical heart and that is Dark Horse. Maybe its ound like a chipmunk remix of something in the beginning but then turns into this vibrant beat thing with some funk musoc in it. Katy making it a mixture of singing and rapping and Juicy J really delivering a fitting rap end make up a bit for PRISM as a musical failure.

#20 - "Excuse My Rude by Jessie J from "Alive" (2013)

There is something about Jessie J's voice that mae you either wanna hate or love her. And with "Excuse My Rude" Jessie not only hits all the right notes, but as well is she rocking all the right lyrics. This song definitely says it all and say it best when simply stating "Excuse my rude, but I really fucking hate you!", I mean if we are honest there are a few people you would like to say that to. (I actually have a long list of such people!)

#19 - "The Stars Are Out Tonight" by David Bowie from "The Next Day" (2013)

Smooth, soothing ans sensual. These three words may describe this song best as it is a great song from an even greater and legendary musician. The song definitely reminds me of one of these old lounge act that stand n a stage in a small club and the leaad singer makes love to the mic. What is not to love about that? Exactly! And even better is the music video starring Bowie himself and Tilda Swinton. #Legendary

#18 - "Bad Girls" by M.I.A. from Matangi (2013)

M.I.A. is a very well known symbol for hip hop and rap that is not kept in boundaries. And that is seldom in the buisness since hip hop has always been about stereotyper, heteronormativity and the American Way. So what distinguishes M.I.A. and "Bad Girls" from it is that she manages it perfectly to mix in oriental flair and sounds without loosing thedgyness of the new electronic hip hop wave. That song definitively is one of my favorites for driving in my car.

#17 - "#BlurredBynes" by Detox, Willam & Vicky Vox (2013)

Robin Thickes "Blurred Lines" was such a horrible song that it definitely deserved to be parodies an taken to the realm of funny. And along there comes a bunch of witty and funny queens that make this one their own. "#BlurredBynes" is as much a parody of "Blurred Lines" as itis making fun of Amanda Bynes, supportng Amanda Bynes and making fun of absolutely anyone and anything. Besides amazing drag looks, sickening lyrics we get some of the greatest hashtags ever! #VAGINACIDE #SRSLYSYRIA

"Music Minute" - Candy Yum (Cum) Yum?

This one hit me hard, and by hard I mean there was a chance of me getting hard, if you know what I mean. This time Music Minute will have the (diabetes creating) pleasure to give you all my thought on the music video to Kevin Mikals "Candy Yum Yum".

Lets cut the crap! That video could be so many things: a boxer brief ad, a candy ad, an ad for Grindr, could be gay porn or even just a music video. But with all the oiled up men, the twerking, Willam Belli and Honey Mahagony this video just screams SEX! And if you havet seen it yet, watch it!

The song is kinda very simple, the lyrics are generic but in this sense we all already know that this is just a club tune to get us on the floor and loose our shit. And you can definitely imagine some guy blowing someone in a gay club to this tune. The video is so super sexy, and über candy filled, that one could even argue that it gives a bad stereotypical representation of the gay community. I mean the words "sex obsessed" and "porno-chic" might come up in the discussion. And yet again this is the gay couterpart to Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" and really gets it going. Willam is just super funny and Honey Mahagony has appearently gotten rid of the kaftan collection.  Whatsoever, thing is that this one, allthough clearly not intended to be so, is hot material for discussing representations of the gay community and if they are either in the favour of the cause or not. But I am still to bothered with the question of wether to say its softporn or a music video. Decide on ya own, I got some "WTF" going on.

Born naked, the rest is drag! - Willam Belli

Hey you out there! This segment is, like you can read, called: "Born naked, the rest is drag!". Each time present to you one drag queen I'm really into and I will try to give you a short glimpse at why I like this queen in particular.

Picture Credits by Flickr. Common Source.
I have dragged about this lil fierce honey before, when I wrote about her hilarious song parodies. But I'm not gonna start with that since it is the most obvious. Willam Belli is an LA based Drag Queen that has done lots of television work, in drag and out of drag. Included are CSI, Nip Tuck and Glee. He has been featured on RuPauls Drag Race Season 4 where he made a really good figure, but (sadly) was excluded from the competition since he broke the rules. (He was visited by his husband)  But as Willam said during the Reunited show: "No RuPaulogies". Thing is that she would probably have taken home the crown. What makes Willam special is not only that he has the sickening body of death and is fishy as fuck, but that he is actually pretty much talented and very creative. He has proven that his acting is A-list, and that her singing skills are chart worthy and her make-up always is professional. (Except for that five o'clock shadow sometimes!) And FYI: She is a very good reader! (Because reading is essential! And by that my dear, not informed, readers: I do not mean reading a book!) And oh my dear! She is very sharp tongued! On Drag Race she has proven that her crafting is good and that she is a true diva. His character is very self confident and sometimes a bit arrogant, which does not mean that she is not a sweetheart and giving (sometimes).

I am a huge fan of Willam, but I do really understand if people dislike her since she is no innocent lamb, and can be pretty cruel. Also her sometimes arrogant attitude make her extremely, well lets say, not that lovable! But if you have the chance: Go check her out, and maybe you will hear her performing her big hits: "Chow Down (At Chick - fil - A)" and "Boy is a Bottom"! (And there were the song parodies!)

Music Minute: Drag Edition - Silicone by Willam Belli, Detox and Vicky Vox

Our favourite cross dressers are back with another hilarious parody on their hands!

Like you all know I am a huge fan of drag queens and drag in general. Yesterday some of my favorite Drag Queens Willam Belli, Vicky Vox and Detox have released a new song parody called: Silicone. the song is a parody of Robyn's infamous "Dancing On My Own". and let me tell you: They did a fierce job! Its a super funny video of them singing about silicone and plastic surgery and procedures! And there three fierce hoes have really outdone themselves with their looks this time! Hell no, there is no point where you have any clue that they have a secret between their legs! But have a look yourself and have fun!

I ... Amanda Lepore - I wish I were...

Red Carpet Lips and porcelain face

Hey fellas! Lately my obsession for drag and Drag Queens has risen to an extensive amount of crazyness, Each morning, when I drive to work, I listen to songs by RuPaul, Sherry VineSharon Needles and Willam Belli. As if that is not enough I raise the bar by adding rapper Cazwell and the worlds, probably most famopus, transsexual: Amanda Lepore!

Okay here is the thing: If you havent heared of one of them.. go and google the shit out of their names! I mean seriously! You gotta know their work because it is drag-nificient.But here is the real story. Whe i searched the web for new music for my car I came across the following song by Sharon Needles from her album PG 13: "I wish I were Amanda Lepore".

And you have to believe me: "I wish I were Amanda Lepore" is so my new favorite song in the car! Bravo Sharon! And then I came across that Miss Lepore had recorded a solo album and of course i did what any good obsessed follower of pup-culture would do: I bought the album and it is called I... Amanda Lepore! And let me tell you: It is worth it! Here is my absoloute favourite from the album, with in addition an even more amazing video. The song is called Marilyn. You can watch the video below. I just love the way the video deals with the whole Monroe story, it is such a good installation. And  Amanda just looks like Monroe. And the song really alienates the video and elseround. Love it!So go and fresh up you knowledge on Grad and Trans and listen to that music! And before you judge just read what Amanda had to go through to become who she is today!
