Twerpocalypse 2013 - 20 Songs That Invaded My Ear - Part 2

As I have started the list of my Top 20 songs of 2013 yesterday, and gave you numbers 20 till 11, including the honorary mention and list widening number 21, now we will get down to buisness and crack the nut (I know, a bad Christmas joke, right?) Lets get this Twerpocalypse on the go!

 

#10 - "Trouble" by Natalia Kills from "Trouble" (2013)

Since she popped onto the scene of pop music Natali Kills has taken my heart by storm. And "Trouble", as the name giving song from her second album, is jut earcandy. And there aint no better gift Natalia could have made to her fans then her second studio album with a banging title track. Trouble begins as a slow song and then developes into this high energy overflower of a title track. Just a sing along and a perfect number 10. 

#09 - "Girlfriend" by Icona Pop from "This Is... Icona Pop" (2013)

Icona Pop have taken the world by storm in 2013 and might be the best thing ever happened to electronic dance and pop music since Lady Gaga. Their song Girlfireind not only happened to be the song stuck in myy ear but as well my favorite song from their debut album "This is... Icona Pop".  Very light hearted but full of good vibe beat thunder "Girlfiend" may get off lesbian vibes, and that s good, but the two are not a couple.

#08 - "Womans World" by Cher from "Closer To The Truth" (2013)

Oh, what have we been gagging at the return of the Empress of Pop and Drak Lady herself! And "Womans World" is all taht we love about Cher She pulls out all disco, combines it with dance and maes it about femnism. What is not to absolutely adore about it? At the club it is a banger, for the car as wel and you simply can not help but to sing along!  And after all the music industry is a "Womans World" and Cher is the motherfucking empress!

#07 - "Close To You" by Neon Trees from "Picture Show" (2012)

One of my personal new discoveries of 2013 but a definite exception when it comes to the release date, "Close To You" is one of these tracks that make you want to cuddle your better half as hard as possible and never let go of that person. A bit melodramatic, a bit rock and a whole lot of feeling to it. A definite must in this playlist even if not released in this year. 

#06 - "Do My Thang" by Miley Cyrus from "Bangerz" (2013)

BY now everyone should ave got the hint that 2013 maked the year of the #TWERPOCALYPSE. And who is guilty of bringing it upon us? Miley Cyrus. And hate on her or not but she definitely belongs on the list, especially with BAGNERZ really beein a good ablum. And "Do My Thang" definitely is my favorite track off that jam. It hits all the right notes and gets this mood out that says im cool, im here, i rap (even though I am white) and deal with it!

#05 - "Sexxx Dreams" by Lady Gaga from "ARTPOP" (2013)

I have been waiting for the new Gaga album forever and I was not disappointed as I heard it for the first tme. I fell immediately in love with "Sexxx Dreams" when she first performed it during her appearance at this years I-Tunes Festival. Slow, sensual, sexy, and seductive. That is waht makes "Sexxx Dreams" living up to its name. A killer hook that featurs one of the longest # ever (#WhenILayInBedITouchMyselfWhenIThinkOfYou) and a vibrant beat and guitar that should get everyone going. 

#04 - "You're Not The One" by Sky Ferreira from "Night Time, My Time" (2013)

Sky prooved to be a real insider tip this year as she was kind of in the scene aready but her label seemed to not have taken so much interest into her. So it took forever to release her debut album "Night Time, My Time". "You're Not The One" is the lead single that really rocks the 80's elcetropop with huge indie waves and a great reminiscence of David Bowies "Low". A definite must have on everyones IPod as well as...

#03 - "Everything Is Embaressing" by Sky Ferreira from "Ghost EP" (2012)

...this song as it has really dominated my playlists this year.  Beeing the second exception on this list due to its release year it definitely is one of the great records of our time. Since Sky melancholy has never looked and sounded any better and we just love it. Witty, humorous and smart "Everything Is Embaressing" is a smart dance pop, funk number from the slow kind that gives you life while listening while it has a clear hint of this Lana Del Rey sadness. Probably one of the best songs this year, as it has been released as a single in 2013.

#02 - "Artpop" by Lady Gaga from "ARTPOP" (2013)

The title track of "ARTPOP" gives us what the whole concept of ARTPOP is all about: rawness, elctronic vibration and a hybrids of the unlikeliest kinds. Music wise the song gives us the full essence of the album as it flows all over the place with synth pop beats, edm influences and a high dose of out of this world sounds. "We could, we could belong together" and "Artpop could mean anything" give us the clear impression that Gaga will have more in stores for us with the whole concept of the reverse warholian experience.

#01 - "We Can't Stop" by Miley Cyrus from "Bangerz" (2013)

The defnite song of the year is "We Can't Stop". Love it, hate it, despise it or adore it. There was no way one could escape this song in 2013. As Miley has made her debut in the adult music industry it is to be noticed that besides controvrsial lyris and a slighty shocking music video she has creatd her own brand of music: dirty south hip hop inspired pop with electronic nuances. "We Can't Stop" is a mid tempo pop song that had us all, you know you tried, twerking, if we can or can't. See? This number one is the #TWERPOCALYPSE i was talking about!

"Music Minute" - The Goddess of Pop is back! - "Closer To the Truth" Review

CALM DOWN GURRL! And it is so hard to stay cal when the great show-business surviver, goddess of pop, goddess of the gays and original diva Cher is returning to the biz with her new album "Close To The Truth"!

Originally "Closer To The Truth" will be released on October 4th in Germany, but Cher has tweeted a link to an amazon page where you can stream all of the songs of the standard version of the album. and it has been such an eargasm to listen. Let me tell you: this woman not only is gorgeous, kind, loving and caring but as well talented as fuck. I mean she is CHER! Lets start with the amazing album cover. Okay, we all know Cher has had some things done but who gives a fuck I mean we have other fish to fry than an individuals decisions about their ow body! She looks absolutely stunning. It seems like she can turn back time, no joke intended, because with her 67 years she looks great, sexy and eve dresses her age! Madonna could learn from her that looking good and sexy is still possible if you dress our age. And I don't want to discriminate because of age! And just look at it. She looks stunning and the idea of being closer to truth for me is represented within the cover. She looks like an antique goddess, and who but the gods know the truths of life. And I will be so frank to say that she definitely knows some truths of life, such as: love, fear and all about showbiz! But lets get to the songs, and give them a song by song analysis as such album deserves it!

#01 - Woman's World

This song just is the classical pro-women, feminism and female independence anthem and pop song. I love it. It is just a great opener. If you want a detailed analysis just look here and find out what I think in detail about this great song! I will give it a straight 9/10 points!

#02 - Take It Like A Man

And here comes what makes Cher so special. Her amazing voice mixed with a little autotune. And it sounds so good! The song is all about to stand your point/man if you want a woman's heart, to really work it out about everything. The tune is funky, fresh and fun. For me it is the furthering of Believe, well at least sound wise. This song gets a 9/10 as well on my scale!

#03 - My Love

This one gets me really in some serious mixture of 80's and 00's mood. It is just a great song for Cher's voice with big lyrics that really build up this raise your arms feeling. But I wish the song could have a little more of the bang factor. But really this is the only criticism I have. It is such a great song for everything from driving in your car, to sing along to lying in bed and listening it while cuddling. And that makes the song an 8 on the scale.

#04 - Dressed To Kill

In the beginning the song reminds me a bit of "Bang Bang", but then turns around and aligns with the other songs and males them a four-pack since they all have this modern disco thing to it. You might say that it makes it boring, but I would say that I really enjoy it, since I am not a child of the disco era. Oh, and the song is about dressing to get what you want, not only sexually, but also expressing desire of all kinds trough clothing! Another strong 8/10!

#05 - Red

Probably my album favorite!  I mean the sound of it has this modern dance pop to it, the lyrics are off the hook making all these great references to the color red: "All I see is red now // Red in my heart // Read like my blood // Read like my lips" . Love it. I mean I love red, so it is natural that I love the song! It is awesome, and gets the first 10/10 in this review!

#06 - Lovers Forever

Okay first thing I am not so madly in love with is the beginning of this song. I mean it is goo, but it could be better. I don't know what it is but... Lyric wise the song is well really great, but I am not so sure about the acoustics and the instrumentals. Well still better than many other songs, but i have to give this one a 6 1/2 out of 10. Maybe just not my tune!

#07 - I Walk Alone

Very gypsy in the beginning, but then adds that beat that makes it modern. Unfortunately I am not that much into this folklore pop stuff. But around the hook she really turns it around, and gets me to stay with the song. And the lyrics are so great! Basically it is all about the self-determination and individuality of women Cher represents. So this one gets a 7/10.

#08 - Sirens

Okay Sirens is a song that is more quiet and slow, and normally I am not a fan of such songs, but this one is another exception. Love it! Cher can really pull of such a ballad. And the line: "From the song of sirens, love can survive" has had me! How great is it that a pop star uses the analogy of the greek sirens in the right context? I imagine this video while walking in the dark in a street with lots of lanterns. The first ballad to get a 9/10 from me (Besides Fergies "Finally").

#09 - Favorite Scars

The beginning reminds me a  bit of the beginning of Natasha Bedingfields "Little Too Much". But it is definitely not a rip off. I mean its way slower. The topic of risking things in life and love, to throw one self back in the game for the better and not hide oneself is a typical Cher thing, and the song is just a great tune to sing along. And that makes an 8 out of 10 in my counter!

#10 - I HopeYou Find It

Okay that one could be a Robbie Williams tune! Seriously, you can imagine him singing this! And that doe snot discredit the song but rather raises the awesome nature of it. It is another ballad like song that expresses the wish for someone to be happy in their life. Maybe a former lover? We don't know, but this could also be a song from Cher to Chaz. I would like it to be that. Full of feeling and a straight 8/10

#11 - Lie To Me

Not so crazy about the "Wuhu" beginning, and yet it is another slow song, but that actually is okay. I mean the album is two parted. Party and ballads. The line to love from this one is "The truth is overrated!" I think it is a good song, but I would not have put it on the last spot of the CD, but lets wait for the three bonus songs on the Deluxe Edition. 7/10.

The total score of "Closer To The Truth" is (Half pints will be added off to full ones).... 90 out of 110. And that score is pretty awesome! The average song rating is around 8,2 which supports the notion that the album has not got one disappointing song. Maybe one that is not your favorite but no song that falls out of line. I would not say that "Closer To The Truth" will be defining this years second half in music, but it definitely has huge potential to become one of the most important this year! I am so excited for October 4th to come to finally claim this lil baby mine! 

"Music Minute" - Our "Work Bitch" Britney is back ... bigger than ever!

Things have become quiet around pop princess and pop diva Britney Spears. But since the release of her new single Work Bitch" a few day ago Britney has kicked into over gear, and has made some huge announcements.

Well, lets start with her latest single "work Bitch" from her upcoming eighth studio album. The song is an EDM dance track that has been leaked one day before its release. - Stop the leaks! I mean "Roar", "Applause" and now "Work Bitch"? is there any pop song that has ben released on its original day and not leaked days or weeks earlier? - "Work Bitch" has one big, very big, critique point: It is rather speaking than singing and sounds a bit boring over wide distance. As well it seems a bit generic and overused to take turns on that "You better work!", because, bitch, that is RuPauls gig! Okay Gurrl!? But lets not pre judge and have a look at the lyrics and see what Brit wants people to work for, or rather says that they have to work for  them. These would be: a hot body, a Bugatti, a Maseratti, a Lamborgini, looking hot in a bikini, living fancy, living in a big mansion and partying in France. Isn't that what Britney does, or better what she represents? Fancy, glam and out of this world decadence? and bitch is right, you have to work for that shit! And that is what she does! She is probably working her ass of for a great body for her life as a pop star, singing everywhere and recording new music. But lets face it. the song lyrically seen is not Shakespeare and not even anywhere near great deep songs. It party, that is what it is. Overall: The song is a good EDM song. Nothing more but nothing less. And with that said I am sure that the album will not outdo "Blackout", which I consider the best Brit album up today. #SorryBoutIt So the song gets a good 7 on a scale of 1 to 10. 

Lets get to more news concerning Brit! She has announced that she will be having her own show at Vegas for the next two years (2014 - 2015) called "Pieces of Me". The deal she signed will get her 30 Million $ in whole for doing 50 shows at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The diva has announced that it will be a mixture of her greatest hits and will include glimpses of her coming album. ticket prices range from around 50$ to 200$. The hotel has announced the show with "The Residency begins" and Brit should be very honored to be doing such shows since she is now up there with Cher, Bette Midler,  Celine Dion and Elton John who also did such Vegas residencies. The announcement was completed by Britney arriving in a helicopter in a gorgeous black body suit that was cut down up to her belly button and was very revealing. 

BUT: We all know that the shows will be lipsyncing at its finest and only bits of live singing. But it for sure will be an epic show. And if i would be there: I so would go and see it, because Britney is one of these Divas that really embody Americas entertainment industry: fake, beautiful, overly perfect, staged and marvelous. For me Brit is the most constructed pop singer ever, but also one to watch!

Music Minute - Cher "Woman's World"

Okay at first: yes the hiatus on Icon Art Marilyn is finally over!  And the best about it is that the unthinkable thing really has happened: Cher, the goddess of pop, has done it and released a new song called "Woman's World"!

And you can not imagine how really happy I am to finally hear new music of Cher! She has been one of my favorite singers and performers ever since I loved music and performance art! The song "Woman's World" is from, what i have heard of it a very cathy song and will, in my opinion develop to be, what else, to be a classic club hit! And it seems as though Cher really wants to make her comeback since she will be performing this new jewel n the 18th of June on the final episode of this seasons "The Voice"! And the best is jet to come, with the diva revealing that the album will be hitting the stores on September 24th! I am so excited for this to happen, i cant even tell you!

And let me tell you: the gay nightclubs will put this on replay for, well for like forever! And they have every reason for it! In my eyes there hasn't been a huge club anthem of the gays since Lady Gaga set Born This Way free. (Sorry Kathy, but "I'll Say It", even though I love it, can not compare to Cher and Gaga's music!)

Also I am so excited to see when she reveals the album cover, and how the video to the single will look like. Oh and, I nearly forgot that: the new album of Cher will be called "Close to the Truth". Don't forget to listen to the single here and make sure to buy the single as fast as possible! #SupportTheDiva

MDNA, Whooooo?

Some of you out there maybe know the infamous tweet Cher tweeted saying: "WTF is MDNA?" I personally loved it, and haven`t had any problem with having a big laugh at Madonna for that. (Even though I love Madonna). But that is not the thing, The thing is that a British smart person had a genius idea to start a YouTube empire known as Charlie Hides TV.

What he does is basically drag. He dresses up as the great divas and icons of (pop)culture. His repertoire includes pop goddess Cher, queen of pop Madonna, new queen of pop Lady Gaga, show business legend Liza Minelli, newcomer diva Lana del Rey, comedy icon and legend Joan Rivers, barbara "the nose" Streisand and many more. Also he has created some characters of his own like "Pop Shizzle" hostess "Laquischa Jonez" and a manager. What he does with them is putting them into certain situations, music video parodies and letting them attend at "Divas Anonymous" meetings. He even has created a prayer for the divas at the "DA" meeting. The prayer is as follows: "God grant me the serenity to accept that younger divas have taken my place. The courage to turn down six figure offers to appear on reality TV and the wisdom to not be seen in public without make-up. Gay men." So to let you know what sort of video he makes i have gathered my favorites here for you:

My all time favorite is called "Shit Cher Says"

Charlie here impersonates Cher and does some of the crazy catchlines the diva herself has used  throughout the years. But he also did many jokes on his own and its actually really funny. But he always pays homage to her, since he is a big fan of Cher. Best is that he does look a little like her and that he does a great impersonation of Chers voice. The catchphrase of his Cher definitly is: "Whooooooo?"

My favorite Lady Gaga and Madonna parody by Charlie: "The Lady is a ... - Lady Gaga and Madonna parody"

Here Charlie puts Gaga and Madonna into a duet and instead of just singing they just sing against each other. And that is quite funny. Actually it is very cool to see that Charlie does it all by himself. And he really has taken on the Madonna -  Lady Gaga feud. In some videos we see Madge and Gags exchanging admiration for one another, that in the end they just do it for publicity! The catchphrase of Madonna would be. "You are reductive!" and Gaga's would be "Your so old!"

"Music Minute" - The Goddess of Pop: Cher

Women are the real architects of society. - Cher

Hey you out there! I guess you have already get to  know that this "Music Minute" is about the goddess  of pop: Cher. I have been a fan if her music for a  while now. And also her life is quite impressive. I  mean the career she had, the death of Sonny Bono  she had to overcome and her daughter Chastity's  decision to become her son Chaz. Also Cher has  been the only recording artist to have a number one  single in each of the past six decades. But this "Music  Minute" will not be about Cher's career, but rather  more about one of my favorite songs and videos of  her: "Walking in Memphis"

The song has been released in october 1995. Its  basically a cover version of  Marc Cohn's original  version.  The song makes lots of references to the  south, religion and to Elvis. I really thing the song is  an homage to Elvis and to the feeling he evoked in people. But that is just my Idea. Generally its a really fun song and good to sing along. What I really like about it, is the video Cher did. So below you can watch the video with Cher starring in it as a She - Elvis. And i think the video is just one of these road videos and very beautiful. I like the cross dressing, and the gender blur. But i general for me its just a beautiful video.
