Icon Art Marilyn was created to talk about pop culture in whole and, as the title already suggests, it as well is a try to make sense out of three culturally important things: icons and iconography, art and artists and Marilyn Monroe as a symbol for beauty, grace, intelligence and the idea of feminism.
This includes music, music videos, movies, art, fashion, books, poetry, advertisement, social events and politics. The aim here is to not only discuss these topics on a (possibly) academic level, but as well to give opinion and fight the notion of pop culture as low brow and inly commercial. As well as pop culture the blog is to be understood as a passionate LGBT IQA supporting platform that is aims to critically comment on happenings in the world that concern not only LGBT IQA topics, but as well fminist and race topics. From time to time the blog will feature some of my own artwork and some short stories.
And as that is a hell of a lot to somprehend there are at least a few stable categories on here that give some sort of compass for all the articles on here:
Ranging from reviews oft he latest release, concert reviews and music video analysis to charts oft he month. Here you will get some good earcandy that hast to pass my critical judgement and absolute bitchieness. As well there is always plenty of time to write about some new artists or to throw shade!
This segment will be all about great and eentertaining books, poetry and everything else you can read! Ranging from book reviews to suggestions what to read, or not to read. As a passionate bookworm I am always up for some good pages from any genre, bei t goofy quirky fun or serious sensual reports.
I fit has been on TV, in cinemas or on YouTube I will find it! And believe me, with the crazy amout of movies, tv series and amout of YouTube videos watched I will try to keep you going on what is hot and new. So sit back, read and then: watch! Some of my favorite series of all time are for sure: "Kathy Griffin - My Life on the D-List", "Scrubs", "True Blood", "Xena", "Sex and the City" and countless others. And don't even get me started on movies. Monroe, Hitchcock, Action, Tarantino and Everything!
This segment is what it all started: art. Mainly you will have to deal with my art and I will, from time to time, do something about artists and artworks. So put on your Warhol wig and get that canvas ready, because it is intednded to get artsy in here!
Obviously everything in this segment will be about, you guess it, .... fashion! I will be having a close look at the outfit ensembles from movies, comment on designer collections, tear aparts red carpet wear, analyze music videos and maybe some of my own purchases. So stant up and open your closet! Get Vogue out and be ready to bitch and moan like Anna Wintour and Joan Rivers!
Not every day but as often as possible I will give you a quote that I like, that inspires me or that I think fits a certain situation. You will for sure read about Joan Rivers, Kathy Griffin, Andy Warhol, Lady Gaga, Sylvia Plath, RuPaul Charles, Hillary Clinton and Amanda Lepore. If you happened to read this blog on a regular basis you probably know that I am a huge fan of drag and the possibilities it offers. So in this segment you will read about drag queens I like, love and adore. Drag is a wonderful part oft he LGBT IQA community an das a perfomative academically interesting and highly entertaining. Within this section you will as well find the young but fierce queen Dita Whip commenting and leaving her mark.
As mentioned before the amazing Dita Whip will, hopefully regulary, be able tpo make a snarky comment on something here or there, besides her work with Icon Art Marilyn on the „Transformations“ project and the fantastic work she is doing leading our „Fantastic First Year Aniversary February“ of 2014.
In cooperation with Dita Whip we initiated this project to clear a few things up about beauty, make up and the power of looking different. Starte das a picture project for our first year anniversary celebration we will carry this on and see what it turns into. Definitely featuring fierce pictures, beautiful volunterrs and great styles.

Mostly not directly labeled as such this section is all about LGBT IQA rights, equal marriage and the situation oft the „Gaytion“. As a strong ally and LGBT IQA activist this blog understands itsself as a strong supporter oft he LGBT IQA community worldwide and a celebratpor of ist unique and variety offering culture.
„Academia“
As one oft he lesser often published categories this features huge parts of academeic works, mostly in the range of 4000 words and more. Here you will get theory insights and deep analyzations of topics all over the spectrum. If you cite it, remember to do it correctly and list Michael Kühn as the author! #NoPlagiarism
