Icons are everywhere!

An icon is someone who makes an effort. Art makes an effort. Therefore art is an icon. Marilyn Monroe was and is an icon and a work of art as well. Hence Marilyn Monroe and art have a nature in common. Icon - Art - Marilyn is iconic.

I read it, so should you! - Michael Schneider: "Marilyns letzte Sitzung"

Welcome to another episode of "I read it, so should you!" This time i feature a German book which I have read some time ago. So get ready for a deep look into the soul of Miss Monroe and her relation towards psycho-analysis.

Copyright by btb Verlag / Randomhouse.
Generally the book is based on true happenings, and on the tapes that Monroe had made of her psycho-analysis settings with her analyst Ralph Greenson. Schneider tells the story of Marilyn's last eight years of her life from the point of psycho analysis. Thereby he reveals lost of shades of Miss Monroe's inner life, that it really is scary. Also the basic information about Monroe's life are told and the author really makes it clear why he sees them in connection  with Monroe's tragic story.  In whole it is written like a novel, but also n a very analytical way. The travel you engage on reading it gives you exact telling of  what could have been going on with her. Sometimes it is really hard to take on the extreme level of nihilism and darkness that apparently surrounded her.

Just go and read it, since I don't want to repeat what is in the book, but i think the most interesting quote would be the following:

"That Marilyn was obsessed with mirrors had begun with her. Often you would find her enchanted by her reflection in the mirror. Friends and co-workers observed how she examined her own image in a 3 parted mirror. How she examined the fit of her dress and the momentum of her brows. It was practically impossible for her to walk pass a mirror without having a look at her own reflection."
